MEDICAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT (OA)

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes electronic health record systems to schedule, reschedule, and cancel routine patient appointments, referrals, or specialty clinics.

Greet patients, verifying eligibility, explaining basic clinic procedures, and routing calls or messages to appropriate clinical staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Conduct comprehensive face-to-face and telephone check-in procedures, verifying patient demographic data, confirming third-party insurance coverage, and updating pre-registration requirements prior to clinical encounters.,Process external and internal clinical consults, coordinates specialty care appointments, and monitors tracking systems to ensure medical records and diagnostic results are retrieved prior to the patient's visit.,Manage incoming clinical communications, routing critical messages, secure patient portal correspondence, and urgent requests directly to the appropriate healthcare providers while maintaining strict compliance with patient privacy regulations.,Review clinical records and electronic health data for completeness, ensuring that all necessary pre-appointment tests, laboratory results, and external medical documentation are scanned and indexed correctly.,Perform general office support functions, including managing incoming/outgoing mail, maintaining office supply inventories, and preparing routine clinic performance metrics or statistical reports for administrative leadership.
