Hours: You will be required to work the hours as are necessary for the proper discharge of the duties with the notional requirement being 35 hours per working week. Work will normally be undertaken in office hours, Monday to Friday, but weekend and evening working will be required

Remuneration: Up to £52,890 GBP gross per annual (dependent on experience)

Duration: 12 months, with the possibility of extension subject to funding

Location: Manchester, UK (hybrid working available), with an expectation of up to 80% international travel/deployment as required by UK-Med. (Open to candidates based in the UK or internationally, with a preference for UK-based candidates due to operational considerations.)

We are seeking a highly experienced Medical Doctor with specialist expertise in infectious diseases, outbreak preparedness and response, alongside a strong background in international humanitarian health, to provide senior technical leadership across UK-Med's emergency health programmes and responses.

UK-Med is a frontline humanitarian medical NGO, delivering life-saving healthcare in emergencies and strengthening health systems in some of the world’s most challenging environments. As a key partner of the UK Emergency Medical Team (UK EMT), we work closely with the UK Government, WHO, Ministries of Health and international partners to respond rapidly when crises strike.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced humanitarian clinician with a strong background in outbreak management and a broader understanding of emergency healthcare delivery across all-hazard humanitarian settings. Our teams have responded to some of the world's most complex crises, including conflicts, disease outbreaks, natural disasters and public health emergencies.

Current and recent programmes have included humanitarian responses in Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan, alongside infectious disease preparedness and response activities in countries such as DRC.

The successful candidate will provide senior clinical and technical leadership across UK-Med's humanitarian responses, with a particular focus on infectious diseases, outbreak preparedness and response. Reporting to the Deputy Health Director with oversight of the Health Director, you will provide technical guidance and mentoring to UK-Med's deployed Medical Coordinators and register members, helping to ensure safe, effective and high-quality healthcare across our programmes.

You will also line manage the Health Department’s Outbreak Referrents and contribute to response planning, clinical governance, technical standards, programme development and organisational preparedness.

Whilst the core specialist function of the role is outbreak response, this is a broader humanitarian health leadership role. You will be expected to support and deploy to a range of emergency settings. These may include conflict-affected areas, natural disasters, disease outbreaks and other complex humanitarian environments.

Deployments may be at short notice, involve rapid health assessments, establishing or strengthening healthcare services, providing senior technical and clinical leadership, supporting multidisciplinary teams and addressing operational gaps where required. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, a supportive and collaborative working environment and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to humanitarian health outcomes worldwide.
