02How We Work

Our culture rests on a few clear foundations: talent density over team size, flexible people over fixed structures, context over control, results over processes, and transparent, clear feedback. We move fast, give people real ownership early, and expect strong judgement and accountability in return.

03The Role

BW ESS is seeking a Senior Finance Manager, Germany to take finance ownership of its German BESS portfolio across construction, operations, transactions and financial reporting.

This is a broad, hands-on role combining strong financial control with commercial finance, portfolio management and transaction support. You will act as the principal finance partner to the German business, working closely with Development, Construction, Asset Management, Strategic Finance, Treasury and Tax, as well as JV partners, lenders and external advisers.

04What You’ll Do

  • Construction finance. Take finance ownership of projects through the construction phase, including oversight of project budgets, expenditure, cash requirements and capital drawdowns. You will ensure project costs are properly tracked, allocated and reported, with clear visibility of performance against budget and investment case.
  • Investment and project support. Support project teams and Strategic Finance with FID materials, financial analysis and other investment decision-making. You will also help track construction-stage VAT, supplier payment terms, capex classification and cash-flow timing for German SPVs.
  • German portfolio operations. Take finance ownership of the operating German portfolio, including portfolio management, FP&A and management reporting. You will monitor financial and operational performance against budgets, forecasts and investment cases, providing clear analysis to management and JV partners.
  • Lender and stakeholder reporting. Manage lender and stakeholder reporting, including covenant monitoring, debt-service metrics, distributions and other project-finance requirements.
  • Transactions. Support project financings, refinancings, equity transactions and other strategic transactions across the German portfolio. This includes financial analysis, modelling, due diligence and transaction support, working with Strategic Finance, Treasury and external advisers.
  • Financial reporting and control. Take responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting across the German portfolio, including German GAAP/HGB, German tax compliance, local statutory accounts, audits and VAT. You will oversee outsourced accounting providers and ensure high-quality monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, statutory accounts, audit and tax compliance.
  • Governance and systems. Maintain appropriate financial controls, governance and reporting processes across German SPVs and joint ventures, while supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of finance systems, processes and reporting infrastructure.

05What You’ll Bring

  • 10 years’ relevant finance experience, ideally in energy, renewables, infrastructure, utilities, oil and gas or another asset-intensive environment

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline

  • Professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or a German equivalent is preferred; substantial relevant experience may be considered in place of a formal qualification

  • Demonstrable experience across both statutory accounting and FP&A, including close, audit, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and management reporting

  • Experience supporting project or portfolio economics, investment appraisal, valuations, cash-flow forecasting or financial modelling

  • Strong knowledge of German statutory reporting, tax and regulatory requirements

  • Confidence operating across SPVs, GmbH structures, complex corporate and JV structures, and project-finance entities

  • Experience managing outsourced service providers

  • Advanced Excel and financial-modelling skills

  • Familiarity with ERP systems, preferably including system migration or integration experience

  • Professional fluency in German and English

Nice to have: Exposure to project finance, debt covenants, lender reporting, M&A due diligence or transaction support. Experience with data automation, BI tools, scripting or AI-enabled analytical tools is also advantageous.

06Why Join

This is a high-impact finance leadership role at the centre of BW ESS’s German growth. You will work across construction, operations, transactions and reporting, with direct exposure to senior stakeholders, JV partners, lenders and external advisers.

You’ll help build the finance platform behind major energy storage assets and play a key role in supporting BW ESS’s long-term growth in Germany.

07Equal Opportunity

BW ESS is committed to building a high-performing, inclusive team and welcomes applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
