About the role

01Intro

For this position we are looking for students or recent graduates in Zürich, working hybrid at the ETH Student Project House (SPH) and remotely.

Nairon GmbH is a Swiss startup building AI voice agents that answer and make phone calls for businesses. Our platform runs real-time conversations over the phone and on the web, connected to our customers' telephony and business tools. We value clear communication, thoughtful engineering, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Join us as we continue to develop tools that make a difference.

We are looking for a Working Student (30-60%) who wants to work on real production systems next to their studies. We are flexible on the duration of the employment.

02Tasks

As a Working Student at Nairon GmbH, you will work with our team on one or more of these areas, depending on your interests and skills:

  • Voice AI: turn-taking, latency measurements, LLM prompting and tool calls, and evaluating speech models (STT and TTS).

  • Voice model training: training foundational speech models (TTS and STT) on GPUs: data collection and preparation, training runs, fine-tuning for German and Swiss-German voices, and evaluation.

  • Realtime backend: Python services around our LiveKit-based media platform, messaging and integrations with customer systems.

  • Web and mobile: features in our Next.js / React / TypeScript web application and our Expo / React Native app.

  • Platform: Docker, Kubernetes, monitoring and the tooling that keeps our services running.

  • Commercial and tech sales: preparing demos and pilot agents, answering customers' technical questions, market and competitor research, and supporting offers and partner conversations.

  • Building test calls, benchmarks and small internal tools, and writing down what you learn.

03Experience

Currently enrolled at ETH Zürich or another university or Fachhochschule, or graduated recently, in computer science, electrical engineering, data science, business and engineering (e.g. MTEC, Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen) or a related field. First project or work experience is a plus, not a must.

04Technical Skills

Required:

  • Programming in Python or TypeScript; for the engineering areas, good fundamentals in Git, APIs and debugging.

  • For commercial work: a solid technical understanding and the ability to explain technology to customers.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with LLMs, speech or audio processing, or machine learning.

  • Deep learning with PyTorch, training on GPUs, or a related thesis or research project.

  • Next.js, React or mobile development.

  • Docker, Linux or cloud platforms.

  • Interest in sales, business development or startups.

05Communication

English proficiency is essential, both written and spoken, as it is the working language for all positions.

German is a plus, and important for customer-facing work.

06Soft Skills

  • Curious, quick to learn and able to work independently.

  • Reliable with the hours you commit to, next to your studies.

07Benefits

  • Flexible Work Setup: Hybrid: work at the ETH Student Project House in Zürich and remotely, around your study schedule.

  • Equipment Provided: Company laptop provided.

  • Collaborative Environment: Join a small, agile team where your contributions go into production.

  • Growth Opportunities: Real experience in AI voice technology and in building a startup, with the possibility of a thesis topic or a full-time role in engineering or sales after your studies.

08Closing

If you want to build AI that talks on real phone lines while you study, we'd love to hear from you. Please tell us which areas interest you most, technical or commercial, and how many hours per week you can work.
