Medical Support Assistant (PRC)

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

01MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector.

Examples include screening and interviewing patients or customers to obtain or verify information; inputting and updating data in computerized data system; performing a variety of customer service duties such answering telephones, responding to inquiries, preparing correspondence, and maintaining files; and explaining policies and procedures to patients or customers. OR Four (4) years of education above the high school level.

This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR A combination of experience and education.

Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. For example, one full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.

Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Reviews patient information to help determine eligibility for care, rules and regulations, the service delivery areas, tribal membership, and residence. Supports staff in examining alternate resources for patients under the program and screens for patient eligibility through the Medicare, Medicaid, Vocational Rehabilitation, and V.A., private insurance or other third-party programs. Prepares responses and routine correspondence and compile information concerning contract services for submission to patients.

Provides customer services to patients and visitors, answers inquiries or addresses requests, and directs them to the appropriate personnel. Assists staff with follow ups to collect patient medical information, patient visits, and discharge dates to complete medical referrals and decision of payments.
