Job description

About the role

Full text from the employer, as published on Arbeitnow, arranged into sections. Nothing added or removed.

Join the Wingtra team and become part of this venture-backed robotics scaleup with a global and international team of 125+ dedicated Wingtranauts who want to see their actions have a positive and lasting impact on the world. Founded more than 8 years ago at ETH Zurich, Europe’s leading robotics university, our goal is to build the best aerial robots to digitize the world at the push of a button and set the basis for faster and better decisions. Wingtra provides efficient and reliable data solutions to a variety of industries ranging from mining, construction and agriculture to humanitarian organizations, environmentalists and wildlife monitoring groups. We are reaching for the stars and together we might just get there. Open communication, asking hard questions and valuing diverse viewpoints are but a few things that will help us achieve our goals. Above all we will never stop learning and striving to help each other reach our maximum potential.

Wingtra builds professional drones that help people map and understand the world. Join the team creating our next aircraft and the tools that build and test it. You’ll be a hands-on generalist who combines mechatronic design and system integration. You’ll work for drone operators and for our colleagues on the production floor.

We’re early adopters of AI and build agents into everyday engineering. We want you to keep expanding what we can design, build and test.

Responsibilities
  • Design what flies and what attaches to it. You design, integrate and qualify mechanical and mechatronic assemblies for the drone and its accessories. That covers mounts and interfaces, plus sensors and actuators working together. You team up with our electronics designers and suppliers to get designs that can be manufactured.

  • Build the rigs that prove it. You develop qualification rigs and production QC setups. You design fixtures and adapters in CAD, integrate PCBAs and instruments and wire sensors and actuators. Then you bring up the whole system, debug and iterate it until it’s reliable.

  • Automate the checks. You integrate a Raspberry Pi and write Python tools for flashing, calibration and end-of-line checks. You build the operator interface with serial-number traceability and robust data pipeline.

  • Make every test mean something. You design for testability. You use requirements and FMEA to define tests and to justify pass/fail limits. You validate measurement accuracy and repeatability, diagnose faults and improve production yield.

  • Take it to the line. You commission QC stations with the Production Engineers on shared infrastructure. You support their takeover and resolve issues through ramp-up. You leave behind tools and documentation they can maintain.

  • Requirements
  • You have depth in one engineering discipline. You’ve also integrated mechanics, electronics and software into systems that work. We value complementary strengths and practical ownership across disciplines.

  • You enjoy product design and test engineering alike. Building tools that make your colleagues on the production floor faster and happier is part of the fun.

  • AI agents already help you learn, design, code and analyze. You check what they produce, invent better workflows and share what works with the team.

  • You prototype fast, debug systematically and keep going until something is reliable enough for someone else to use.

  • You’ll sit in the Engineering team with real ownership, from the first concept to a working production line. You’re based in Zurich. During commissioning and ramp-up, you’ll spend time with our production partners in Europe and the USA. If you enjoy teamwork more than being the individual superhero, and if you thrive in a feedback-driven culture and an exciting, unconventional yet structured and progressive start-up environment, we would love to hear from you.
