The Technical Content team is looking for a Technical Video Writer to create practitioner-focused videos that make complex technical concepts clear, engaging, and useful. You’ll develop scripts and narratives that show customers how to get more from our products across formats, including technical explainers, feature roundups, podcast-style conversations, and new video concepts.
You’ll bring a strong sense of visual storytelling and hands-on knowledge of video production to the scripting process, thinking beyond the words on the page to how a story will come together on screen. Working closely with our video team, motion graphics animators, and technical experts, you’ll develop new topics and formats, translate technical details into compelling stories, and ensure every piece is clear, accurate, and relevant to practitioners.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace, in the office three days per week, to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
01What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders-including video producers, product managers, product marketing managers, technical advocacy, and engineers-to create project briefs, outlines, storyboards, and scripts for original videos.
- Write companion content, including YouTube descriptions, blog posts, and social content.
- Use AI tools to accelerate outlining, research, and development workflows.
- Identify relevant visual elements and record precise, high-quality screen captures of Datadog products and features.
- Ensure content is technically accurate, reflects Datadog’s voice and tone, and clearly communicates customer value.
- Support post-production tasks, including video editing, sound mixing, and closed captioning.
02Who You Are
- You have a talent for video storytelling, demonstrated through writing samples and a portfolio of past work.
- You have hands-on video editing experience and proficiency with video editing software such as Premiere or Final Cut Pro, motion graphics tools such as AfterEffects, and AI tools to support video editing.
- You are comfortable with taking initiative and managing multiple concurrent projects with limited supervision.
- You have 2-5 years of experience writing scripts for a technology company or working as a technical journalist. Experience as a technical advocate or an engineer is a plus.
- You have an understanding of how software is developed and run in production, including how teams monitor app performance and address security risks.
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
03Benefits and Growth
- New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
- Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
- Assigned TPM mentor and engineering buddy program for learning and relationship building
- An inclusive company culture, active Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups), in-person team summits, local office programming
