01About Flexport
At Flexport, we believe global trade can move the human race forward. That’s why it’s our mission to make global commerce so easy there will be more of it. We’re shaping the future of a $10T industry with solutions powered by innovative technology and exceptional people. Today, companies of all sizes-from emerging brands to Fortune 500s-use Flexport technology to move more than $19B of merchandise across 112 countries a year.
The recent global supply chain crisis has put Flexport center stage as we continue to play a pivotal role in how goods move around the world. We are proud to have the support of the best investors in the game who believe in our mission, solutions and people. Ready to tackle global challenges that impact business, society, and the environment? Come join us.
02Why Climate Matters More Than Ever
Supply chain leaders are being asked to cut costs and carbon at the same time. Yet logistics and sustainability teams often work with different data, tools, and priorities. Meanwhile, regulations and industry standards are raising expectations for how companies measure and manage their emissions.
Most climate tools stop at reporting: a dashboard or a year-end PDF, produced long after a shipment has moved. They rarely reach the people deciding how to route goods, when to ship, or how much inventory to hold.
The Climate team at Flexport is building emissions intelligence directly into the platform where supply chain decisions are made. We help customers weigh cost, speed, and emissions together-and turn that understanding into action.
03The Opportunity
Flexport already runs the shipments, holds the data, and provides the platform where customers manage their supply chains. That puts us in a strong position to connect climate insights with the operational decisions that drive emissions.
You will be the primary engineer for Climate, working independently of our existing engineering teams and partnering closely with the Climate Manager, your main day-to-day business stakeholder.
Think of it as a small startup within Flexport: direct access to the business, a broad scope, and substantial ownership. Together with the Climate Manager, you will identify the most valuable problems to solve, shape the product direction, and turn ideas into reliable software. This role calls for someone who enjoys both deciding what to build and building it.
04Things We ❤️
- Turning complex shipment and emissions data into clear, actionable choices.
- Working directly with stakeholders and users to understand what would make their lives better.
- Building simple, reliable products and learning from how people use them.
- Finding opportunities where lower costs and lower emissions go together.
- Taking an idea from an ambiguous problem to a useful product in production.
05You Will
- Work closely with Climate Programs Manager to understand customer needs, challenge assumptions, and translate business goals into a practical product roadmap.
- Own delivery from problem discovery and technical design through implementation, launch, operation, and iteration.
- Build emissions intelligence into everyday supply chain decisions, including routing, transport mode, shipment timing, and inventory planning.
- Help customers identify opportunities to reduce emissions using Flexport’s shipment data.
- Make lower-emission choices easier to understand and act on within existing workflows.
- Develop products that help customers understand the wider environmental footprint of their supply chains, beyond freight.
- Deliver useful improvements incrementally, balancing speed, scope, maintainability, and data accuracy.
- Coordinate with other engineering teams when your work depends on shared systems, integrations, or expertise.
- Measure whether what you ship solves the underlying problem, and use that evidence to decide what comes next.
06You Should Have
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong engineering foundation and experience delivering production software.
- A track record of working independently: you can bring structure to an unclear problem, set priorities, unblock yourself, and follow through without a detailed specification or constant direction.
- Strong product judgment: you understand user needs, identify what is worth building, and make thoughtful tradeoffs between impact and effort.
- Experience working closely with business stakeholders: you ask good questions, explain technical choices in plain language, and constructively challenge ideas when needed.
- The ability to own features across the stack, including user interfaces, backend services, and data integrations.
- A love of simple, well-tested code that is easy to extend and hard to break.
- Comfort taking responsibility for the reliability and maintenance of what you build.
- A bias for action, combined with the judgment to recognize when you need input or help.
- An aptitude for learning quickly, including unfamiliar business domains and technologies.
07Nice to Have
- A personal motivation to work on climate and environmental challenges.
- Experience in climate technology, emissions accounting, logistics, or supply chain software.
- Experience building products in a startup or another small team with broad ownership.
- Experience turning complex data into customer-facing insights and decision tools.
Prior climate experience is a plus; curiosity and the ability to learn the domain matter more.
08How We Work
- Your day-to-day work will center on a close partnership with the Climate Manager, with collaboration across engineering as needed.
- You will have substantial autonomy and will be expected to keep stakeholders aligned on priorities, progress, and tradeoffs.
- We build and launch incrementally, using feedback to guide the next step.
- In Amsterdam, we come to the office two to three times a week to collaborate, whiteboard, and spend time together.
- Flexport’s broader technology stack includes React, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, Kotlin, Kubernetes, GraphQL, gRPC, Postgres, Kafka, and Snowflake. We welcome candidates from different technology backgrounds.
09What’s in It for You?
- Direct ownership of products that help customers make better supply chain and environmental decisions.
- The opportunity to shape Climate technology with the autonomy of a small startup and the reach of Flexport.
- Equity participation and a defined pension contribution scheme.
- 25 vacation days based on full-time employment.
- Fully paid premiums for Flexport’s collective health insurance plan.
- Catered lunches, breakfast, snacks, and drinks in the office.
- Covered home-to-office commuting costs for employees living outside Amsterdam.
- Employee assistance and parental leave benefits.
10Commitment to Equal Opportunity

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, physical and mental disability, health status, marital and family status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, military and veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
