Senior Applied AI Engineer

TLDR: We’re looking for top 1%, high agency, AI-forward senior engineers to be part of our early team at Resonance in Berlin. We're looking to hire Europe’s elite AI talent, and we're building our Berlin hub to serve clients across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

We believe the economic diffusion of AI is the major challenge of the next decade. Foundation models are advancing far faster than organisations can absorb them; the bottleneck is embedding AI deeply into the core processes of a company to drive an inflection in pace and create organisational advantage. Europe is falling behind on AI, and we exist to help its businesses build real, defensible advantage from it rather than simply adopting it.

03The role

As a Senior Applied AI Engineer in Berlin, you’ll lead Resonance’s most ambitious client engagements across DACH. You will design and build production AI systems to drive a dramatic acceleration in productivity or a step change in growth for our key clients. You will work at the AI frontier, own end-to-end deployments, and lead a team of AI engineers to build at pace. You’ll set the technical direction, advising CTOs and engineering leads of leading enterprises and owning security, reliability and governance for everything we put into production. You’ll lead the build from first prototype to production while staying hands-on in the code, working across the stack from data pipelines and the AI layer to the client’s core systems, and setting the bar for code quality, evals and observability. You’ll grow the firm by building Resonance’s own AI products and shared platform, turning patterns from client work into reusable components, and coaching the engineers on your team as one of our first technical leaders in Berlin.

What we’re looking for: You have extreme agency and a bias for action, thrive on ambiguity, and are AI-obsessed, getting hands-on with new models and tools the day they hit the market. You typically have 5+ years building software, including technical lead or architect responsibility for a production AI system. You might be a senior, staff or principal engineer at an AI-first company or scale-up, a lead forward deployed engineer, a technical lead at an AI consultancy or an AI lab’s applied team, or the founder of your own company. You write production Python or TypeScript, have designed and shipped LLM systems in production, including agents, retrieval and evals, and design for how they fail. You’ve led engineering teams and raised their bar, make clear decisions under uncertainty, and are commercial and comfortable problem solving with technical and non-technical execs. German is a plus for client work in DACH, but not a requirement.

Logistics: Berlin, 3+ days a week in the office or at client sites, mostly in DACH and Europe. English is our working language; German is a plus. We can sponsor visas for eligible candidates, and start dates are flexible.
