You'll support & refine our lending strategy within Germany, including supporting new growth initiatives, designing & analysing tests, supporting the development of our scorecards and underwriting strategy, and managing our portfolio risk.

Working closely with data scientists, credit analysts and cross functional teams, you’ll solve analytical problems to help us provide small & medium size businesses in Germany with the funds they need to grow.

03The team

The Lending Strategy team decides who iwoca lends to in Germany, and on what terms. Its work covers model development, lending strategy, and portfolio risk. The team works closely with Data Science (credit models), Product, tech teams, Operations Strategy, and our team of Credit Analysts. The team’s work is central to iwoca Germany’s growth and has a direct impact on both customer outcomes and business performance. The team includes data scientists, developers, and risk analysts, all working hybrid schedules in London.

04The role

We're looking for a curious and motivated individual to join our Lending Strategy team as a Risk Analyst. You’ll work with analysts, data scientists, and senior stakeholders to shape iwoca Germany’s lending strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Build expertise in the credit domain.

  • Develop your analytical skills through exposure to different experimental approaches and complex analysis.

  • Play a leading role in providing insightful analytics on the risk profile of our lending book and assisting with lending strategy decisions.

  • Partner with key stakeholders within Team Germany in order to provide credit risk expertise to multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Work closely with the data science teams to improve our credit assessment scorecards & strategies (both for our automated and manual underwriting processes).

  • Develop and maintain reporting dashboards, presenting a clear picture of the state of our lending.

  • Practice turning data into information, and information into insights, so that you and various stakeholders can deliver improvements with real impact for our customers.

05The requirements

We look for people that are smart, humble, motivated and who are always looking to improve.

Essential:

  • A degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or similar.

  • Ability to analyse data and generate insights to support decisions.

  • Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to tailor analysis and recommendations to different audiences.

  • An analytical mindset with a practical approach to problem solving.

  • A bucket-load of common sense.

  • A commitment to using modern tools effectively, including AI, to maximise quality, speed, and rigour, while retaining responsibility for accuracy and outcomes.

Bonus:

  • Experience in B2B or B2C credit risk lending and strategy.

  • Experience with SQL and Python

  • Experience with data visualisation tools like Looker

06The salary

We expect to pay from £40,000-£55,000 for this role. But, we’re open-minded, so definitely include your salary goals with your application. We routinely benchmark salaries against market rates, and run quarterly performance and salary reviews.

07The culture

At iwoca, we prioritise a culture of learning, growth, and support, and invest in the development of our team members. We value thought and skill diversity, and encourage people to explore new areas of interest, adopt better tools, including AI, and apply sound judgement so our products and decisions improve over time.

08The offices

We put a lot of effort into making iwoca a great place to work:

  • Offices in London, Leeds, Berlin, and Frankfurt with plenty of drinks and snacks.

  • Events and community-led groups, including running groups, padel, and monthly ping-pong and pool competitions.

09The benefits

  • Flexible working hours.

  • Medical insurance from Vitality, including discounted gym membership.

  • A choice between a dedicated dental plan or a health cash plan that reimburses everyday medical expenses.

  • A private GP service (separate from Vitality) for you, your partner, and your dependents.

  • 25 days’ holiday per year, an extra day off for your birthday, the option to buy or sell an additional five days of annual leave, and unlimited unpaid leave.

  • A one-month, fully paid sabbatical after four years.

  • Instant access to external counselling and therapy sessions for team members that need emotional or mental health support.

  • 3% Pension contributions on total earnings.

  • An employee equity incentive scheme.

  • Generous parental leave and a nursery tax benefit scheme to help you save money.

  • Electric car scheme and cycle to work scheme.

  • Two company retreats a year: we’ve been to France, Italy, Spain, and further afield.

And to make sure we all keep learning, we offer:

  • A learning and development budget for everyone.
