01Wordsmith
Wordsmith is building the legal operating system for in-house teams, and we are growing fast.
We believe in-house legal is becoming one of the most important functions in the AI era. Every business is moving faster, but legal work is still too often scattered across inboxes, chats, documents and disconnected systems.
Wordsmith brings that work into one system. Requests come in from across the business, AI agents handle the routine, lawyers stay in control where judgement matters, and every step is captured as work happens.
We are built for in-house legal, not law firms. Our goal is to help legal teams move faster, reduce unnecessary external counsel spend and become a function the business can run with.
More than 500 companies, including Financial Times, Safelite, Trip.com, Canva, Starling and Sage, use Wordsmith. Backed by over $100M from Index Ventures, General Catalyst, Highland Europe and others, we are building one of the defining companies in legal AI.
02The role
Legal Engineers turn the product into real outcomes for customers.
You’ll work with customers after purchase to design, configure, and implement legal workflows inside Wordsmith. This role sits close to the customer, helping them embed the platform into how their legal function actually operates.
It’s part implementation, part problem solving, and part advisory. You’ll combine legal understanding with product knowledge to help customers get meaningful value from the platform.
This is a technical, hands-on role. You don’t need to be a lawyer, and we’re not necessarily looking for one. We’re looking for analytical thinkers who are comfortable with technology and ideally have deployed legal tech before, people who can understand how a legal team works, then build the system that supports it. Where the work turns on legal judgement, we already have lawyers as part of the team who can bring the legal expertise.
03What you’ll do
1. Customer Implementation
Lead implementation projects for new customers
Design workflows and automation tailored to each organisation
Configure the platform to support real legal use cases
Scope implementations for complex enterprise customers, use cases, sequencing, and where value will land first
2. Solution Design
Work directly with legal teams and Legal Ops leaders to understand how they operate
Translate legal processes into structured workflows and AI-enabled automation
Advise on best practices for implementing legal technology
Build and adapt playbooks with the customer, bringing in Legal Intelligence where clause language or negotiation positions need a lawyer’s judgement
3. Technical Build
Build integrations and connect Wordsmith to customers’ systems, knowing when to bring in Engineering
Build agents, skills, automations and workflows, from standard templates to complex multi-step processes
Take on complex reports and playbooks, leaving standard ones, such as a basic NDA blueprint, to the wider customer team
4. Escalation & Fixes
Reconfigure playbooks and workflows when a customer’s risk appetite or process changes
Act as the escalation point for technical issues and complex training questions from Support and Enablement
Run deeper health checks where a setup needs technical or process review
5. Customer Success & Expansion
Support onboarding and early adoption
Help customers expand into additional workflows and use cases
Create the template flows Enablement uses to demo and train on standard product workflows
Provide on-site embedded support where a customer needs hands-on technical help
6. Product Feedback
Surface patterns, insights, and recurring requests to Product and Engineering
Help shape how the product evolves based on real usage
04What we’re looking for
Experience in legal tech, legal operations, or process transformation
Strong understanding of how in-house legal teams work
Ability to manage customer projects and guide stakeholders through change
Comfortable working across legal and technical domains
Technical enough to build integrations, agents and automations yourself, and to judge when a problem needs Engineering
A fixer’s instinct, comfortable diagnosing a live setup and reworking it when a customer’s needs change
Structured thinker, you can turn messy processes into clear systems
Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with customers
05Typical backgrounds include
Prior Legal Engineering experience
Implementation or solutions consultants in SaaS (CLM / Legal Tech is a plus)
Legal Operations Professionals
06How we work
We’re an in-person team based in Edinburgh or London. You should expect to work from the office or visit customers as your default.
We set a high bar, move quickly and give people meaningful ownership. There will not always be an established playbook, so you’ll need to bring curiosity, structure and persistence to unfamiliar situations.
You’ll sit in the Transformation team, reporting to the VP of Transformation, and work alongside Legal Intelligence, Enablement, Customer Success, Support Engineering and Product.
Our customer teams have clear but closely connected responsibilities: Transformation leads implementation, Support Engineering resolves technical issues, Account Management owns renewals and commercial growth, Customer Success owns adoption, customer health and value realisation, and Enablement owns onboarding, training and customer capability.
07Why Wordsmith
Wordsmith is growing quickly, winning new customers and expanding within larger organisations. How legal work gets rebuilt around AI is still being written, and Legal Engineers are the people writing it with our customers.
You’ll work directly with ambitious in-house legal teams, see how dozens of legal functions really operate, and take that back into a product you help shape. It is a rare place to combine legal judgement with building things.
