01The role in brief

Most learning designers build courses. In this role, you will own them.

As our Instructional Design & Training Products Manager, you will take a portfolio of professional training products from first idea to finished, quality-assured release, and keep them at their best for as long as they are in use. The training you build is used by aviation (civil and defence) professionals whose decisions keep people safe, so getting it right matters.

You will work alongside some of the most respected subject matter experts in aviation safety, helping them turn deep technical knowledge into learning that is clear, engaging and works in the classroom, online and in blended formats. You will have real influence over how we design, develop and quality-assure our training, including how we use AI to do it better.

If you have a background in learning design or training product development, a sharp eye for quality, and want to see your work make a visible difference, we would like to hear from you.

02Why this role matters

This role owns the full lifecycle of a defined segment of our training and consulting portfolio. You will be the bridge between our subject matter experts and the wider business, sales, marketing and delivery, making sure every product is high-quality, ISO-compliant and commercially sound.

Just as importantly, you will help make our portfolio more scalable, so that great products no longer depend on SMEs doing all of the development themselves.

03What you will do

  • Own the product lifecycle: take a defined set of training and consulting products through design, development, QA, release and maintenance, delivering against timelines, budgets, quality standards and commercial goals.

  • Identify learning needs: use training needs and gap analysis, customer insight and delivery feedback to shape new products and refresh and improve existing ones.

  • Lead learning design with SMEs: turn expert knowledge into clear learning objectives, specifications, storyboards and design documentation.

  • Shape new products: work with Business Development and SMEs to define market needs, build the case for new products and position them for sale.

  • Create high-quality materials: presentations, workbooks, facilitator guides, lesson plans, marketing collateral and digital content.

  • Champion quality: run QA, proofreading, brand, IP and publication checks before anything is released.

  • Keep products current: manage version control, maintenance cycles and product KPIs.

  • Improve the learner experience: raise the standard of design and usability across classroom, virtual and blended formats.

  • Work smarter with AI: use AI tools to speed up development and reduce SME drafting time.

04What you will bring

  • At least 2 years’ experience in training product development, instructional or learning design, or L&D content development.

  • A track record of designing professional training materials for classroom, virtual or blended delivery.

  • A solid grounding in learning design principles (for example ADDIE) and in training needs and gap analysis.

  • A strong eye for quality and detail, you notice what others miss, from a weak learning objective to an inconsistent heading.

  • Strong project management skills, and the ability to juggle several products, deadlines and stakeholders at once.

  • Confidence working with subject matter experts: asking the right questions, challenging constructively, and turning expertise into effective learning.

  • Advanced skills in PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Excellent written English, to publication standard.

05Nice to have

  • Experience in aviation, defence or another safety-critical or regulated industry.

  • E-learning or blended learning development experience.

  • A recognised L&D or instructional design qualification.

  • An understanding of IP and contract frameworks.

  • Experience using AI in content development.

06What success looks like

  • 90% or more of product milestones delivered on time.

  • 100% of releases meet QA, brand and IP standards.

  • A 40% reduction in SME effort on repeatable development tasks.

  • Fewer maintenance requests and releases each year.

  • AI used effectively across the development process.

  • Positive feedback from stakeholders and learners on usability and quality.

07Join Baines Simmons

Baines Simmons builds the competence behind aerospace and defence safety. For 25 years we have delivered expert, approachable training and consulting to civil and military aviation organisations worldwide: more than 750 organisations served, over 200,000 professionals trained, and 40 or more regulatory authorities advised.

We work as one with our clients, sharing serious know-how, rigour and expertise. Across every sector, and alongside global regulators, we help organisations continuously improve safety, airworthiness and compliance. We go beyond helping them comply with regulations; we empower them to excel in operational and safety performance.

We look for curiosity, passion, leadership and impact. Our people do not just advise on safety. They change how clients manage it. If you want your work to make a measurable difference to aviation safety, we would like to hear from you.

08One organisation, four brands

Baines Simmons is one of four TrustFlight brands. TrustFlight is the Aerospace Safety Intelligence Platform, building the technology that helps aviation operate safely and stay compliant. Redline Assured Security delivers government-standard aviation security, and Kenyon International delivers crisis management and response. Each brand keeps its own name, heritage and team. Together we share one platform, one set of values and one purpose: closing the gaps between disconnected tools and providers, because those gaps are where risk accumulates. Working at Baines Simmons means your expertise connects to all four.

09Why people stay

We believe people do their best work when they have the freedom to do their job without too many rules and barriers getting in the way. Our culture is built on empowerment and trust: we hire good people and expect them to make the right calls for the customer, company, and themselves. Transforming an industry means our people have to keep learning. We earn our clients' confidence by being honest and dependable with each other, and that includes caring about the important things in life outside of work.

Our offices in the UK, Canada, the US and Jersey are where teams meet to collaborate and plan. People who deliver earn more say in how their career develops, from the path they take to the flexibility they need.

If you want to make a real difference to safety, this is the place to be.

10How we work with AI

TrustFlight is an AI-first organisation, and we provide AI training where it is appropriate for your role. In this role that means using AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Copilot and Gamma) to draft and structure content, accelerate documentation and reports, and support knowledge management, while critically reviewing and refining every AI-generated output for accuracy, clarity and professional quality. You will design and apply AI-enabled workflows that make product development faster and more consistent, look for new places to integrate AI into our processes, and share what works with the team. You will complete our AI fluency onboarding within your first 30 days and spend four hours a month experimenting with AI tools and building your skills.
