Are you passionate about the intersection of Python programming, electronics, and radio frequency technology? On behalf of our client, an innovative and publicly listed telecom pioneer in Kista, Academic Work is looking for an RF Test Engineer. In this role, you will play a key part in the core R&D organization, developing automated test sequences for next-generation digital coverage solutions and 5G infrastructure. Apply today, as we apply ongoing selection!
01About the role
Our client develops patented, digital coverage solutions (Distributed Antenna Systems) engineered for demanding environments such as rail and road tunnels, subways, arenas, and large commercial venues. Their systems support commercial cellular networks from 2G up to 5G, as well as mission-critical public safety networks. In this position, you will join a specialized hardware development team of around six engineers at the global headquarters in Kista. The role is focused on the intersection of software and electronics: your primary mission is to build, maintain, and optimize automated RF test sequences and scripts in Python to verify products at both module and system level before they transition into series production. Because the position requires hands-on verification with instruments and test rigs in the laboratory, work is primarily conducted on-site in Kista, with the possibility of working remotely one day per week.
You will act as an essential link between internal R&D and manufacturing. Internally, you will collaborate daily with hardware, mechanics, and radio engineers, as well as a larger software development team. You will have no direct customer-facing duties; instead, your primary external stakeholders are production partners and manufacturing facilities in Sweden and Estonia. The role includes occasional travel-approximately 3 to 4 weeks per year-to install, configure, and troubleshoot test setups on-site at the manufacturing plants. You will become part of an open, supportive engineering culture characterized by flat hierarchies, shared daily fika breaks, and a transparent mindset where catching mistakes early and solving complex challenges together is valued above all else.
02You are offered
- A technically versatile role working with cutting-edge 5G and cellular hardware solutions.
- A tight-knit, collaborative team culture with short decision paths and high engineering expertise.
- Occupational pension aligned with ITP1, wellness allowance, and free access to the building’s gym facilities.
03Work tasks
Develop automated RF test sequences using Python, perform hardware lab verifications, and coordinate with production sites to ensure product quality.
- Develop, maintain, and execute automated RF test sequences and scripts using Python.
- Perform test and verification at module and system levels on proprietary hardware and electronics.
- Set up and operate automated test equipment (ATE) and RF lab instruments, including spectrum analyzers and signal generators.
- Build, commission, and optimize automated test rigs for both laboratory development and factory production.
- Conduct lab-based hardware troubleshooting and analysis down to board and component levels.
- Collaborate closely with software and radio engineers to expand test coverage and streamline test cycles.
- Support external manufacturing partners and travel to production sites (approx. 3-4 weeks/year) to deploy and verify test setups.
- Document test methods, procedures, and test results within Jira and Confluence.
04We are looking for
- An academic degree in Electrical Engineering, Wireless Communication, Applied Physics, or equivalent practical industry experience.
- At least 1 year of documented professional experience in Python programming for automation, scripting, or hardware test control - either from your education or previous work experience.
- Practical hands-on experience working with RF test instrumentation (e.g., spectrum analyzers, signal generators) or Automated Test Equipment (ATE).
- Good technical understanding of cellular standards such as LTE (4G) and 5G NR.
- Comfort working in Linux environments and performing hands-on lab work.
- Strong proficiency in English, both written and spoken, as it is used in technical documentation and manufacturing communication.
- This position requires that you hold a valid work permit or have the legal right to work in Sweden.
05It is meritorious if you have
- Experience reading electronic schematics and circuit diagrams.
- Knowledge of database management and SQL.
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and project tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Practical experience with hardware prototyping platforms (e.g., Raspberry Pi).
06To succeed in the role, your personal skills are
- Goal oriented
- Orderly
- Stable
- Intellectually curious
- Respectful
