Health Technician

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.

Therefore, technician experience is experience that requires the application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

01MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-05: One (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position.

Examples include: providing basic clinical and clerical support in a healthcare setting under supervision; conducting patient screening, obtaining and recording vital signs, and documenting patient information in electronic health records; assisting with patient positioning, activities of daily living, and routine clinical procedures to support patient comfort and safety; recognizing and reporting changes in patient condition; maintaining exam rooms, supplies, and equipment in accordance with infection control and safety guidelines; and performing administrative support duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining records, and coordinating communications with healthcare staff and external facilities.

OR Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. OR A combination education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for the GS-05 grade level.

GS-06: One (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position.

Examples include: providing routine direct patient care and clinical support services as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team; performing patient intake, screening, data collection, vital signs, routine testing, and documentation in electronic health records in accordance with established procedures; preparing patients for examinations and procedures and supporting patient comfort, safety, and mobility; monitoring, evaluating, and documenting patient conditions and recognizing and reporting significant or subtle changes requiring clinical attention; performing authorized testing and monitoring activities in accordance with established protocols; and maintaining accurate patient care documentation while ensuring compliance with privacy, confidentiality, and infection control requirements.

Reinforces patient and family education provided by healthcare personnel and assists patients with understanding care instructions, follow-up actions, and self-care activities using approved materials and methods.
